If the War Goes On…

There was once an American spirit, an American courage, an American manhood that did not express themselves in the uproar of the herd or in mass enthusiasm. The last great vehicle of that spirit was Nock, who, amid the business boom and sheeplike conformism that characterized the beginnings of the American empire, became an antipatriot and anti-American. In this little note I wish to remind the young American intellectuals of that man, of his courage and solitude, and in so doing turn their minds away from the outcry to a few simple facts and experiences of the soul.

It’s All About OIL in Iraq

Oil Law Brings Theft of Resources Out in the Open, Oil Workers Strike Forces Maliki to Choose Between Iraqis and the Occupiers

“The situation in Iraq is coming to a head. Oil workers have been on strike for three days and are being threatened by the Iraqi government and surrounded by the Iraqi military. The Parliament passed a resolution urging an end to the U.S. occupation and has refused to act on the oil law the U.S. is demanding. Both the Democrats in Congress and the Bush Administration have united around the passage of the oil law as the top benchmark for the Iraqi government.”

Salon.com on Ron Paul

Ron Paul is blowing up real good – Michael Scherer @ Salon.com

“For years, Paul had been the GOP’s doddering old uncle, advocating strict small government principles too extreme for most of his colleagues. In the last few weeks, however, he has evidenced the first inklings of becoming something more — the public face of a small but passionate Republican revolt against President Bush’s foreign policy. Paul’s dissent is public enough, and his views inconvenient enough, that some Republican power brokers have wondered aloud about ushering him off the public stage.”
